Style Rider aims to document the world’s most stylish motorcycle riders, be they riders of classic, custom or cafe racer steeds. Focused on the intersection of motorcycle culture with individual style, here we speak to Toniel Leung about being adaptive to the occasion and bringing a smart hat along in the pannier.
Name: Toniel Leung
Residence: Sydney, Australia
Occupation: Industrial and Graphic Designer
Instagram: @t.b.0.n.e
Today’s ride: Mutt Hilts Grey
Describe your style: I am adaptive to the occasion. When riding, I like timeless gear; brown leather shoes, vintage gloves, ripped jeans, leather or bomber jacket. On the weekend, you’ll see me in a vintage Jordan jersey with Nike sneakers, while work is straight-up business attire; double-breasted suit with cropped trousers is my weapon of choice.
Favourite item: Dents vintage brown leather gloves.
Next purchase: Triumph Bobber.
Style icon: Kobe Bryant. He is adaptive to the occasion, wearing everything from sportswear to tailoring. I feel that adaptability is a key element of a truly stylish person.
Best local ride: Frenchs Forrest to Palm Beach. It is a lovely scenic route close to home.
Best distance ride: It can be difficult to undertake a long-distance ride on a 250cc motorcycle. My favourite ‘longer’ ride is to Bondi and along the coast to Watsons Bay for a bushwalk.
Tip for stylish motorcycle riding: Keeping a hat in the pannier is always handy for those with helmet hair.
Next motorcycle trip: Sydney to the NSW Central Coast via The Entrance.
Why do you like riding? When I was 8, I watched Tom Cruise riding into the danger zone in Top Gun. That scene where he was just riding on the runway, with his aviators, no helmet, leather fighter jacket and the F-14 tomcat flying next to him was what got me into the whole motorcycle scene. I have been living my life according to Maverick’s character ever since. : )
