Today’s ride: 1976 Vespa 50 Special. This bike has been owned by my family since new. My grandfather purchased the Vespa for my then 16-year-old Father who used to ride around our small Italian village. As the years passed, this bright red Vespa caught the attention of my mother … and on that day she asked for a ride! Years later, I came along and once old enough, this was my first ever experience riding on two wheels. I distinctly remember the three of us riding to the beach in summer as a family; three people on a 50cc! Once we moved to Sydney in 1996, the Vespa remained in Italy and would only get used on our holiday visits. In 2017, I decided it would be a shame to let a piece of our family history waste away, so I had it restored (in Italy) and imported to Sydney. My parents take it for a ride every so often, and it still puts a big smile on their faces.
Describe your style: I like to wear simple outfits and style these with stand-out items like shoes, watches, sunglasses and rings. During the week I wear the corporate uniform of a blue suit and white shirt. On weekends, I like to keep it relaxed, often pulling together a simple t-shirt and jacket combination when on the bike.
Favourite items: My SKRAM Moto Glasses as they double up as riding and fashion glasses.
Next purchase: Ducati. I haven’t decided which model, but I know I want another Italian!
Style inspiration: David Beckham. Given my love for bikes and football growing up in Italy, I always looked to him as a source of inspiration. His style is effortless.
Best local ride: I enjoy riding through the city on a warm summer’s night. I’ll usually come from the southern suburbs and head north over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, stopping at all the best lookout points.
Best distance ride: I haven’t ridden too far from Sydney. The furthest trip would be to Terrigal on the NSW Central Coast. We took the scenic route on my 1500cc Harley, and this was a great experience.
Tip for stylish motorcycle riding: Keep it simple and functional.
Next motorcycle trip: I would love to experience an off-road adventure ride as it’s not something I’ve done before.
Why do you like riding? It keeps my brain healthy! The best part is being able to shut everything out and focus solely on riding. No music, no one to chat to … just you, your bike and your thoughts.
