Style Rider aims to document the world’s most stylish motorcycle riders. Focused on the intersection of motorcycle culture with individual style, here we speak to Museum Director Megan Sheehy about long distance riding and her Moto Guzzi called Charlotte.
Name: Megan Sheehy
Residence: Melbourne, Australia
Occupation: Museum Director
Instagram: @megansheehy
Today’s ride: My beautiful 750cc Moto Guzzi V7 named Charlotte.
Describe your style: Vintage with rock’n’roll flare. On the bike I wear Saint CC jeans and a Blackbird ‘Fly By Night’ jacket.
Favourite items: My collection of vintage shirts and my trusty leather jacket. My Sheila’s Shakedown t-shirts are prized possessions also. (Sheila’s Shakedown is a Melbourne-based annual festival for women and gender non-binary moto-lovers).
Style inspiration: I grew up obsessed with the attitude and independent styles of my Riot Grrrl and alternative music heroes, so most of my style comes from the punk and feminist icons I look to: Patti Smith, Kim Gordon, Kathleen Hanna, Adalita, PJ Harvey.
Next purchase: I’m on the hunt for a good looking new helmet.
Best local ride: The Reefton Spur from Warburton to Marysville.
Best distance ride: My partner and I rode 10 days around the West Coast of Tasmania in January and it was absolutely stunning, The Tarkine Drive should be on every Australian rider’s bucket list.
Tip for stylish motorcycling: Follow Moto Femmes, they will guide you in the right direction.
Next motorcycle trip: Currently dreaming up a long-distance adventure from Melbourne to Perth (3,400 kilometres), riding along the coast before hitting the flat desert roads of the Nullabor Plain. It has been on my list for a long time.
Why do you like riding? Playfulness, openness, adventure and mental health. Long distance riding in particular is expansive, and I get a sense that with a few good friends, I can handle whatever life throws at me.
