Stevenson Overall Co is the USA and Japanese workwear brand owned by Zip Stevenson and Atsusuke Tagaya. The company initially existed in the United States in the 1920’s and 30’s. However, it was in 2005 that Zip and Atsusuke relaunched the brand based on their shared interest in vintage denim. They aimed to redevelop the process of creating jeans with a ‘flat felled seam’, a construction method more commonly associated with the pre-1920’s era. Their collections over the past decade have been inspired by vintage clothes, fabrics and art, and have design details that reflect their ‘nostalgic but new’ ethos. There is a quality to their products that feels particularly Japanese in its attention to detail. The single stitching on these jeans is undertaken by only a small number of workshops in Japan, and this obsession with detail sits well with the flattering cuts and strong fabric choices.
