Seven hours south of Sydney is Victoria’s spectacular Bogong mountain range. This area provides an activity based holiday with winding mountain roads (Harrietville to Mt Hotham is 45 minutes of perfection), great observation points, some serious trekking and the charming town of Bright nearby.
Shady Brook Cottages in Harrietville offers three, well designed cabins on ten acres of private bushland with a stream. Trekking in the nearby mountains [25 km round trip from the cottage to the summit or 23km from Mt Hotham to Mt Feathertop] provide the perfect break from city life.
Another walk, the razorback walk, is a 25km return trek from the Diamantina Hut on Mt Hotham to the summit of Mt Feathertop. It is a pleasing, if strenuous walk with relatively gentle undulations and views over the surrounding ranges. Make sure to pack suitable clothes in case of a change of weather, food and plenty of water.
