The Lotus Dumpling Bar, an ever popular choice for the Walsh Bay theatre crowd, has opened a stunning 270 seat venue in the city. Beautifully designed by Paul Papadopoulos of DS17, the space features a minimal colour palette, Thonet dining chairs and a number of commissioned artworks by Kim Akimovic. The city venue is a significantly larger than the Walsh Bay space and is well suited to mid-week lunches with the team or catching up with a friend.
The head chef is Chris Yan who has previously worked with Kylie Kwong and at China Doll. While dumplings continue to be at the heart of the menu, the offering is considerably broader, presenting a modern take on authentic Chinese flavours. Favourite dishes include salt and pepper tofu, jade (prawn) dumplings, pippies in house-made XO sauce and the refreshing crystal salad. Lotus’ combination of tasty food, good service, stylish fit out and fun atmosphere make this one of our favourite restaurants in the CBD.
