The Boathouse, situated on picturesque Lake Daylesford, was completely rebuilt following a devastating fire in 2012. Originally managed by the team behind The Argus, it was taken over in mid-2016 by the previous owners of The Farmers Arms. New management has brought a welcomed overhaul of the menu with the new team in the kitchen featuring one or two familiar faces from some of Daylesford’s best eateries.
Serving breakfast and lunch seven days a week, The Boathouse offers one of the best views in town with a large wood fireplace for the cooler winter months and an outdoor deck to take in the gorgeous scenery over summer. Menu highlights include a salmon breakfast (Tasmanian smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, avocado, beetroot relish, Meredith goats curd on a toasted bagel), buttered asparagus, local bacon, poached egg, pecorino Romano, blistered cherry tomatoes on toasted light rye, baby beetroot tarte tatin (caramelised baby beets, fennel with a rocket, meredith goats cheese, walnut and pear salad) and steamed mussels with garlic, chilli, tomato and coriander served with crusty bread.
The interior fit out has wisely been left untouched and sees a wooden rowing skiff mounted to the ceiling and a whole wall of historic black and white photographs depicting the area over the past century. The Boathouse is an enjoyable place for lunch and a relaxing glass of wine whether behind the glass in winter or on the deck in summer.
