I have finally tried the best cake in my whole life. Typically, I never order dessert (although I might try it if you order), and certainly wouldn’t go into a café to order a cake. There are no health principles behind this. I’m just not a big fan and 99% of the times cakes are overly sweet and just too much. I have now changed my mind and I would happily go back and have this cake over and over, even skipping the savoury menu of delicious quiches, croissants and sourdoughs.
Black Star Pastry Rosebery has hit my cake spot hard with their divine strawberry watermelon cake. Two layers of almond dacquoise (almond and hazelnut meringue), fresh whipped cream, watermelon, strawberries, and pistachios topped with fragrant rose petals. The big mystery is the watermelon. It’s crisp, not soggy or soft. It adds the perfect texture and a refreshing touch to this masterpiece of a cake.
There’s not much more to say; go try it. While your in this neck of the woods check out my favourite hearty lunch spot, Kitchen by Mike, just around the corner.
