Style Rider aims to document the world’s most stylish motorcycle riders, be they riders of classic, custom or cafe racer steeds. Focused on the intersection of motorcycle culture with individual style, here we speak to photographer Patrick Stevenson about riding bikes, minimal colours and the lessons learnt from wearing too much fluoro in the mid-00s.
Name: Patrick Stevenson
Residence: Sydney, Australia
Occupation: Photographer
Instagram: @patstevensonphoto
Today’s ride: 2014 Yamaha MT-09
Describe your style: Typically I wear whatever band shirt I have laying around, black jeans and Vans. I like to spice this look up with some fun socks.
Style inspiration: I don’t really have any particular inspiration and like to keep it minimal. I learnt my lesson looking back at photos of me wearing fluoro in the mid-00’s.
Next purchase: A Nikon Z6II.
Best local ride: North of the city to West Head in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase or South through the Royal National Park.
Best distance ride: The 370 kilometres of winding roads from Jindabyne, over the Snowy Mountains to Khancoban, onto Cabramurra finishing in Tumut.
Tip for stylish motorcycling: Most of my motorcycle gear is daggy and trashed with my leathers having scuffs from falling off at SMSP (Sydney Motorsport Park). I love riding in Vans, jeans and a t-shirt in summer but it’s very naughty and mum would get upset if she found out. My tip is to go with what suits you and the type of riding you like.
Dream riding kit: Whatever John Wick was wearing in the latest film. How cool is John Wick?
Next motorcycle trip: The 4,500 kilometres from Sydney to Broome in North-Western Australia. This epic ride takes you through the deserts of Central Australia to the coast of northern WA.
Why do you like riding? It makes me feel alive. My brain is too busy to meditate so this is the closest thing in my world.
