Mondsee—translating as moon sea in German—is a pretty Austrian mountain village spectacularly positioned at the edge of a freshwater lake. The buildings are colourfully painted and the views over the lake are without a doubt its best asset. This has led it to be quite popular with tourists and it seems as though they now have more visitors than some of the locals feel is necessary. The lack of friendliness from the cafe owners means the village is not overly welcoming which is a shame as the place itself is lovely.
