The urban regeneration of Sydney’s inner city continues to fascinate me. Sub-Station No 152 in Alexandria is an excellent example of repurposing a derelict space and making it useful once more. The No 152 electricity sub-station is now a cafe serving Single Origin Roasters coffee beans and fresh, middle eastern influenced breakfasts and sandwiches. Clever use of the tiny space via the annexing of a small courtyard has created a charming, light-filled cafe from which the busy kitchen turns out tasty dishes using the freshest of ingredients.
The menu is broken down into Breakfast, Sandwiches and Salads along with accompanying pastries and daily specials. On the morning we visited, the Middle Eastern Breakfast Platter with ham, ricotta, avocado, poached eggs, roasted capsicum and seeded bread was delicious.
