‘Tailoring Coffee Joyously’ is the tagline and ethos behind Haven Specialty Coffee situated directly opposite Central Station in Surry Hills. Coffee geekiness in all its glory is on show at Haven with well made—and presented—coffees available via practically all brewing methods. Aiming to tailor the coffee experience to each individual customers taste, the team aim to showcase the flavours of various coffee varieties and brewing methods, assisting the customer to discover their own flavour preferences. As would be expected this award-winning team from Hong Kong, the coffee is excellent with a range of blends and single origin beans available. One particular thing to note is the serving of the coffee which varies via type. For example, the Panama Geisha, served as a pour over filter coffee, was accompanied by a small bowl of almonds to help bring out the flavours, while the macchiato came with a small serve of currants. These may or may not be necessary depending upon your view, however, the commitment to assisting the customer find their flavour preference is undeniable.
Ex-Ampersand sous chef Thomas S. Taylor has created an all day breakfast menu of dishes including smashed eggs with avocado, pork belly burger and house-cured Kingfish with chilled soba noodles which is a step up from standard cafe food; you can see the full menu here. Haven is a another high-quality coffee offering in Surry Hills and a real contender in Sydney’s highly competitive coffee scene.
