Cockington Green model village, Canberra

Cockington Green Gardens is a model village first opened to the public by Doug and Brenda Sarah Cockington almost 30 years ago. It is unlike anything I have seen before, being neither twee nor taking itself too seriously. The village has a Miniature Steam Train ride that acts as a divider with bucolic scenes of rural English life on one side and International scenes on the other. It is the English villages, in my opinion, that are the highlight. Painstaikingly reproduced, the scenes are cleverly infused with a sense of humour and feature charming details like a local British policeman napping a couple of graffiti artists or The Stig (Top Gear) making an appearance outside a riverside tavern.
