Style Rider aims to document the world’s most stylish motorcycle riders, be they riders of classic, custom or cafe racer steeds. Focused on the intersection of motorcycle culture with individual style, here we speak to Tokyo based surfboard shaper, vintage Indian motorcycle rider and owner of Rough and Rugged, Takashi ‘Enoshi’ Enomoto.
Name: Takashi ‘Enoshi’ Enomoto
Residence: Tokyo, Japan
Occupation: Producer/Designer, Rough and Rugged.
Instagram: @tak4546
Today’s ride: 1937 Indian Sports Scout 750cc
Describe your style: Street style casual. I like to design military and surfing inspired items, giving them my own twist. An example is a reversible take on the classic MA1 nylon flight jacket. Black nylon on one side with an orange sleeve and black fleece vest when worn inside out. I like to wear classic streetwear with a twist.
Favourite item: 1937 Indian Sports Scout
Next purchase: Indian FTR 1200
Style inspiration: The Motorcycle Boy in the movie Rumblefish.
Best local ride: Tokyo to Chiba. A little over 100 kilometres each way, it is a beautiful coastal ride.
Best distance ride: Tokyo to Hokkaido in summer. 1,300 kilometres of riding with long straight streets, winding mountain roads and lakes to cool off in.
Next motorcycle trip: Tokyo to Hiroshima. 1,600 kilometres ridden over five days on my 1946 Indian Cheif; a heavily modified chopper which is currently being rebuilt.
Why do you like riding? The sensation of speed. Plus, I love riding vintage motorcycles. I love them, not in spite of their imperfections, but because they are not perfect. It’s a thrill to ride something that may not always make it. There is something about them that attracts me in a way modern motorcycles cannot.
