Devon Cafe is a welcome addition to one of the few remaining, (relatively) un-gentrified areas of Surry Hills. Offering an imaginative and pleasingly different menu, Devon Cafe replaces breakfast staples like bacon and eggs with creative dishes of miso salmon and eel croquettes or poached eggs with smoked salmon blinis.
Winner of the Best Food Cafe in the SMH Good Cafe Guide 2014, the cooking reflects Sydney’s multi-cultural food influences. Zacharay Tan (ex-Bistro Guillaume) and Jacqui Ektoros (ex-Guillaume at Bennelong) have teamed up to blend a casual cafe atmosphere with quality dining. The smart fit out is suitably urban with an abundance of plywood, polished concrete floors and camouflage netting in the rear courtyard. The service from the floor staff is efficient while the coffee, brewed on a matte grey Synesso coffee machine, was awarded ‘one cup’ in SMH Good Cafe Guide 2014.
